West Johnston Fine Arts Collabs and Musicals

One of the strongest and most unique parts of the West Johnston Fine Arts Program is our year-round collaboration within the department. Whether you're in the band, dance, or sing or draw - we all work together to make collective productions for our community.

The West Johnston Christmas Collaborative is the 2nd week of December on Thursday and Friday night at 7pm. EVERY Fine Arts student in the school is involved with these shows! Show themes vary from Story Shows ("Ninny Muggins - An Elf Parody" in 2017; "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" in 2022) to looser themes that tie all the performances together ("The Holiday Express" in 2019; "Of Christmas Past" in 2021).

The feather in West Johnston's cap (so-to-speak) is our Musicals each year. Auditions for on-stage performers are traditionally at the beginning of each school year, while the Musical Pit Orchestra comprised of mainly band students is selected/auditioned in November. Normally occurring on the 2nd weekend of February each year, our Musicals consistently make finalists in multiple captions at Triangle Rising Stars. For the band, this is the hardest music we play all year and only the very strongest students are selected for this group (normally juniors and seniors).

Depending on the year, other collaborations occur such as combined Chorus/Dance concerts, Jazz ensemble/Gospel Choir concerts, etc. Make sure to check out our calendar to look for other collab performances!
